Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is so common today as to be staggering. There are several possible causes, but one stands out as the most common. Lets look at some common causes of lower back pain and what treatment they require.

One way to think about lower back pain is that the body has something wrong with it and it wants you to slow down. Since the lower back is so integral to being active this is a good place to give you pain so you have to slow down.

Another way to think about it is on an emotional level. Since the lower back supports the entire upper body, the largest percentage of your weight, then it might suggest that you aren’t being supported in some way. This could be that you aren’t supporting yourself, or the universe isn’t supporting you, or that you don’t feel supported by the important people in your life.

Applied kinesiology describes another type of lower back pain called “cardiac back” which has to do with the heart. Not in the sense of heart disease, but more in like a broken heart. It can be related to support as above, a sense of loss or some other emotional stressor.

Treatment for the emotional issues is fairly obvious. Acknowledging the emotional issue, taking time to reflect and deal with the stress, talking to a friend or professional and taking time to rest are the best things you can do.

Applied kinesiology offers a way to remove the emotions from the body that are affecting it so healing can begin sooner, sometimes immediate relief is found. Other treatments include herbs and supplements designed to help deal with stress. In some cases they can be essential. AK has a technique for cardiac back that can bring immediate relief.

Tight muscles can also cause lower back pain. The psoas is a deep muscle that runs from the inner lower back through the abdominal cavity over the outer hip area and down to the inner upper thigh. When this muscle is tight it can pull the lower back in causing extra curve. Releasing the psoas with a psoas release technique can completely eliminate the pain.

Another tight muscle that can cause lower back pain especially sciatica is the piriformis. This muscle runs across the upper hip area in back. Some people have a sciatic nerve that runs through the piriformis. When the muscle is tight it squeezes the nerve causing the characteristic back of the leg pain.

Simple stretches can give immediate relief to sciatica though more treatment is usually needed. Even though a single muscle is usually the primary cause, the usual problem with lower back pain is often the indirect cause.

Most lower back pain is caused by adrenal fatigue. The ligaments and tendons use the same nutrients as the adrenal glands. When there is high demand for those nutrients as there is with adrenal fatigue, the adrenals get the largest share so the ligaments lose out and become lax. Since the lower back caries the greatest weight that area is usually effected first.

In most cases I find that lower back pain needs to be treated through treating the adrenal glands. You can find this information in my book, Adrenal Fatigue — Get Your Life Back, available here for immediate download, and soon will be available on Amazon in physical form.

Knowing what treatment is needed for lower back pain, or any condition for that mater, can be very hard to find. Applied kinesiology uses muscle testing to find the cause and treatment that the body most wants. While muscle testing isn’t always 100 percent accurate, it does have a very high success rate that goes beyond what most doctors can claim.

Muscle testing and many applied kinesiology techniques can be done over the phone. I often give phone sessions to my clients as well as to people like you who find me through my website. Let me know if you’d like to schedule a session. I offer a sliding scale in an effort to help people out in these hard economic times.

There are many more causes of lower back pain. Many are discussed in my free book Back Pain Secrets. Be sure to download your copy today. And, let me know if you’d like help in finding the cause and best lower back pain treatment or other condition you may have.

Looking for Back Pain Relief

Here’s an article on back pain relief using holistic methods. This is a good idea since the medical model is much less likely to work. Not to mention the side effects of drugs and surgery which are the main methods used by doctors.

The article covers several different methods from taking a break to massage, acupuncture and manipulation of the joint by a professional.

The author acknowledges that surgery may be necessary for back pain relief in serious conditions: “Another common reason for back surgery is a herniated disc. Some very painful conditions are caused by a disc pinching a nerve, which requires surgery to relieve pain.” But acknowledges that not all herniated discs need surgery. “However, not all bulging discs as MRIs show it need surgery. ”

An interesting statistic I didn’t know is how fast a herniated disc can heal. “According to studies, many herniated discs heal well within six months without surgery, unless the disc hits on the sciatic nerve.” I thought it took much longer, which is probably true of more serious problems. She didn’t say anything about using supplements to aid in the healing, something I am a strong believer in.

I really like how she says that back pain needs to be treated at the root of the problem rather than just treating the symptom. “Since back pain is not a disease but a symptom, there is a need to treat the underlying cause. A holistic approach does that to heal back problems.”

Other methods of back pain relief that she discusses are heat, exercise (the closest thing to a cure all I’ve ever seen) and dealing with weight issues.

I really like how she says that people need to change their life style if they really want to heal from back pain. “The above holistic treatments require dietary and lifestyle modifications along with supplements. ”

My Methods for Back Pain Relief

The one thing she doesn’t recommend is my treatment for lower back pain, dealing with adrenal fatigue. I wouldn’t expect her to say anything about how it is possible to adjust yourself using Self Adjusting Technique for back pain relief as that is a very unique method that isn’t very well known yet.

She and I both agree that you might want to consider holistic healing before rushing to the operating room or giving in to long term medication. Back pain relief can be found through natural methods and should always be considered, at least in our opinion.

You can read her entire article on Holistic approaches for back pain at the link.

The medical community continues to look for solutions to lower back pain, and they continue to fail. Here’s part of an article from the Doctors Lounge.
“Ultrasound, Shock Wave Not Effective for Low Back Pain

The available evidence does not support the effectiveness of ultrasound or shock wave for treating low back pain, according to a review published in the October issue of The Spine Journal.”

http://www.doctorslounge.com/index.php/news/pb/23989
This is really unfortunate. I haven’t seen a case of lower back pain where there isn’t a herniated disc that does not have an adrenal fatigue connection. Every case that I’ve seen in my practice or friends of mine responds well to treatment with adrenal herbs and supplements.

This article on adrenal fatigue treatment gives a lot of information of the kind of treatment I use to treat adrenal issues. If you’d like to learn more about this all to common condition the you might like to get my book, Adrenal Fatigue, Get Your Life Back. Still at a ridiculously low price that will be going up as soon as I can get the sales process set up for it.

Neck Pain at C5

Recently a woman asked about a pain in the neck, shoulder and radiating down the arm. I referred her to a neck pain article I wrote a couple of years ago. She took the advice to heart, stopped eating sugar and a few weeks later she was mostly fine. Still a little twinge from time to time, but a lot better.

In the video on C5 neck pain I talk about Vagus nerve that runs from the back of the brain along side the spine to the fifth cervical. At that point it branches out with nerves that reach into a lot of different systems throughout the body. Many of them carry information about sugar and how to deal with it.

Evolution
Dealing with sugar is difficult for the body because it evolved for millions of years without it — ground up grains count as sugar in this case as they break down into sugar very quickly. It has only been a few thousand years that we have had access to processed foods out of millions of years of evolution.

Side Bar:
Did you know that when an archaeologist finds the remains of an ancient human that they can determine if they were hunter gathers or farmers just by looking at the holes in their teeth? The hunters had great teeth while the grain eaters had cavities. They tended to osteoporosis as well.

Our bodies evolved eating mostly meat. This has been proven. About 90 percent in fact.

Look in your local supper market. 80 to 90 percent of what you see is processed foods. This is how we eat today.

Is it any wonder that diseases that were rare in history are major epidemics today?

Back to the Neck Pain
So, all this weird information is coming into the brain through Vagus nerve. Thousands of nerves into one big one. Just like a freeway during rush hour, a jam up occurs. This causes a tension in the local muscles (actually, a little more goes on, just trying to keep it simple) which pulls C5 out of alignment.

Just a Little Sugar?
My new friend recently had a “couple bites of ice cream.” The next day her neck and shoulder pain was back like before. She wondered if it could be psychological. Sorry, I’ve seen it too many times, experienced it too.

Biochemistry Tells All
As I’ve said before, the biochemistry of most major illnesses can be traced right back to adrenal fatigue. Stress is the real culprit, but sugar stress is a really big one that we can eliminate. C5 neck pain can become major too, a very common area for spinal fusion surgery.

A young friend of mine helped me make this video on back pain prevention. Fortunately, his youth made it possible for him to show us the wrong way to do things.

When I was young I used to be able to lift amazing amounts. I took pride in the fact that I could lift the wrong way and not have any problems whyat so ever. Turns out I was wrong.

Lifting the wrong way can cause instant pain — something just gives out. But, that’s not all, the damage can be cumulative.

So, take care of your back. Do the right things to prevent back pain, whatever condition it is currently in…it could change very quickly.

A truely unsolicited testimonial is one where permission to publish it is included in a testimonial that was not asked for. Today I got my first!

Oh, there have been many people writing to thank me for the relief they found, but I have always had to ask permission to use it.

Another surprise for this one is that the problem he has is in the ribs. Plus, his wife was able to figure a lot out by watching the rib adjusting video I have on youtube! I tried to make that so people would have a hard time figuring it out.

To be honest, the ribs can be difficult to adjust. They were able to use the assisted method that I have on video. Works really well if there aren’t complicating factors like a trigger point.

I’m glad they did though, my main goal is to try to help people out.

Anyway, here’s the email I just got. Very nice story about his experiences with ribs pain.

Hi Kalidasa,

First of all, I would like to thank your wonderful book, “Self-Adjusting Technique” and the accompanying videos. Let me tell you first my story:

I’ll be 40 yrs old this year, married with a child. Late last year we decided to buy a Playstation 3 for my kid so that he would be able to experience it like other kids. Playstation 3 has a virtual game simulator called PS3 Move where you play some games like table tennis, volleyball, etc., as if they were real. There is a PS3 move controller you use to do this and of course the games that you run in the console.

In short, I got hooked up to some of these games for a while, and one night while I was trying to hard to throw a simulated round disc, the following day I found myself unable to get up the bed because of the terrible pain on my right chest. I found it really hard to take a deep breath and when I sneeze, or cough, “My goodness!” it felt like my chest was gonna get ripped or explode.

I went to the doctor after a few days when it persisted and at first, the doctor said it was only some kind of a “chill” or cold air got inside my chest muscles. I was told it was gonna be gone after a while. But two weeks everyday it felt the same or maybe worse. I tried taking pain killers over the counter, wrapped it with an ace bandage, and put some lotion for pain. Nothing was working.

So went to my family doctor and had me done an X-Ray and some blood test. It came out still ok. But I returned again and complained the same thing. She made me do some arm movements and made me identify which area hurt. I told specifically where it hurt on my right chest. She diagnosed me then having a misaligned rib and that I needed to go to a chiropractor or physiologist. However I don’t have medical insurance and our government health insurance doesn’t cover this. I have to pay like $90 and up per visit to these health professionals.

So what did I do? I tried to look up the internet to learn more about what my problem. I stumble onto your website. I also found you on youtube and your sample video on how to realign the ribs. That was very important. I asked my wife to watch it with me and I had her tried it on me. Of course it wasn’t perfect but the day that followed I already felt a change in the pain. We tried it again, and then rest of a day, tried it again, and I was starting to feel good. But I was really curious how you do it yourself, so then I decided to purchase your book. It’s all worth it than if I pay a visit to a chiro which I could not really afford.

I followed specifically the chapter on the rib alignment because that’s my problem. Tried to get used to the bending routine and applying pressure where it hurts and what direction the pressure should be. It worked like a miracle! Now I sneeze, and cough once in a while (not a smoker, but the weather) and I felt almost nothing, very minimal. I will still continue to do it coz I do it without much force and hopefully it will just be like a bad dream that’ll be gone totally when I wake up. I thank you for the videos to included in the package.

If I had not found your website, maybe I would still be feeling the pain right now. Thanks alot and hope to learn the other stuffs in this book too. It’s a goldmine. More power and God bless!

Regards,

P.S. You can use my testimony in addition to what you already have. Just keep my name as it is, for privacy reasons. Thanks.

There is a lot you can learn about healing back pain for free. For example, there are a lot of healing articles on this site with a lot of information that is free.

Here’s someone who found some big help for his particular issue. He found it when he got a massage, but found out the why and a self applied method from information he got free here.

Here’s what he has to say about it:

Dear Kalidasa,

Thanks for your (free) book, I got it in the first email. I also saw the video you’ve sent – unfortunately I haven’t have the opportunity to experience it myself (the assisted back pain relief video that comes in the email series), but just trying it by myself was useful too.

I’ve read through the free book, you’ve sent, and I found it very interesting, especially the part on the adrenals. Unfortunately, getting rid of sugars is extremely hard for me – since I do some intensive sports – and because of that, I’m focusing on the herbal / vitamin treatment you suggested. I can get back to you, if you are interested in the results.

The best-ever thing that worked for me on lower back pain treatment was a psoas-massage. Up until now, I didn’t know what was the maneuver, the masseur performed on me during a Thai-massage session, but I felt immediate relief after one year of constant pain. It was thanks to you – the YouTube video you’ve posted on the topic – that made me realize what was happening to me at that time. Since then (one week ago) I can specifically search the net for stretches, yoga-routines, and by practicing them, I no longer have extreme pains radiating down my right leg, and the un-easyness in my back lessened considerably – though, it is not gone, yet.

This whole experience taught me that self treatment is more useful treating lower back pain on the long run than current medicine (though some of them come handy when dealing with pain reduction and inflammation reduction). This is why I’m strongly considering to buy your book on self adjusting technique.

Thanks again,
Peter from Hungary

Hi Peter,

I’m really glad to hear you found some relief. The psoas makes complete sense for an athlete. Sugar may still be adding to your issue though. I’ve been reading about carb loading lately, seems that the degree that many people take is unnecessary. I’ll see about writing on this if I find some great information. Sugar will have less of a negative effect if you have it shortly before exercising. Seems that exercise mitigates just about everything. Please do keep me informed.

Kalidasa

First, I have a video on how to do a psoas massage in a unique way that can be self applied that helps a lot of back pain sufferers. This is what gave Peter so much relief.

Secondly, there have been recent studies that show that carb loading for performance isn’t the best thing to do. A little in some circumstances, but in general people have been shown to do better with more protein and fat rather than huge plates of pasta.

The point is that it isn’t always necessary to buy information to be free from back pain, even the book I sell isn’t always needed.

Check around on the site here, see what you can find that might help your back pain issue, or other health issue for that mater. I have a different way of looking at things than a lot of people do…but they’re coming around.

For a long time now I have been saying that back pain can be more readily treated with natural techniques than by surgery, drugs etc. New evidence is showing that most people are much more likely to recover without surgery. In many cases back pain surgery can go completely wrong leaving the patient in more pain than ever.

Records from 1,450 patients of the Ohio bureau of Workers’ Compensation with a herniated disc diagnosis, disc degeneration or radiculopathy, a nerve condition causing weakness and tingling in the arms and legs. About half had surgery to fuse two or more vertebrae, the other half had no surgery.

Two years later only 26 percent of those who had back surgery were able to return to work while 67 percent of those with no surgery were able to be productive again. Not only that, but there was a 41 percent increase in the use of opiates in those who had fusion surgery.

Here is that article on back pain surgery.

Those are pretty poor odds especially considering that natural treatments have been shown to be much more successful.

In 2007 the agency for health care research reported that 27 million Americans reported back pain. And, they spent over 30 billion dollars on various back pain treatments. While some of this money goes for alternative treatments, a big part of it is spent on surgeries.

Many people think that aches and pains are part of growing older. I disagree. Older people may need to be a little more careful with their health if they abused their body while younger, but pain, even lower back pain, is not normal. It means that something is wrong. The body wants to heal, all it needs is the opportunity.

The root cause of most lower back pain is the same, so I thought I’d post this recent response to a lower back pain sufferer.

Lower Back Pain

The main thing in almost all cases of lower back pain is to bring the adrenals up. Diet is essential, stop all processed foods including any “good” sugar.

There are herbs that can help the adrenals fast. I only use MediHerb for the quality, but have heard good things about Kroeger brand. I’ve seen others that have no effect at all because their quality is so low.

The herbs listed are from MediHerb. This is my favorite adrenal fatigue protocol though not necessarily the best for everyone. I like these herbs because they usually work fast.

Licorice high grade liquid 4 ml
Siberien Ginsing (Eleuthero) liquid 11 ml
Nevaton three tabs a day three doses

Mix the herbs, add a little water (they’re pretty strong without) and take half in the morning and half around noon. Empty stomach is best, but not essential.

Other important supplements for longer term healing. From Standard Process. Best to split the per day to two dosses (5 per day would be three in the morning and two with dinner). Take with food.
Drenamin 5 per day
Cataplex B 3 per day

You can get more information on how to help your adrenal glands from my adrenal fatigue book.

I can have the supplements and herbs sent to you for 20 percent off if you like.

A few days ago I woke up with a pretty good case of neck pain. Obviously I had slept some way that left me with a sore and stiff neck. I wasn’t concerned too much because that’s what I do, fix body issues like that. Well was I in for a surprise. Here’s what happened.

When I first woke up I noticed right away that my neck was really sore. It actually hurt to move in many directions. I knew that not only was the neck out of alignment, but that at least the top three or four ribs on that side were out of alignment as well. So, I quickly adjusted the neck and top ribs, only takes a minute or two for those areas.

Almost no change at all.

I was really surprised. So, I got up, took care of some things then worked on it again a little later. Then some more later. And some more.

Finally! After a couple of days of working on it and remembering a couple of simple therapies I got everything feeling right. Here’s what I learned, or at least relearned.

Healers of all types are their own worst diagnosticians. I knew this from earlier experience, just had to learn it again. If I had a client with the same issues that I had, they would have been completely out of pain within an hour, no problem.

The problem with working on myself is that somehow I forget the most simple things. Focusing on a client I can quickly and easily allow the answers to show themselves. I guess I get in my own way somehow. At least I was able to work on all the right things, it just took longer.

The particulars of what were needed to get rid of my neck pain are really the basics of what I would do for most any sore neck. They are not in any particular order at all. For example, the adjustment is almost always last, but there have been exceptions, at least in my experience. Normally I let the body tell me what to do and when.

Adjustment
Most of the time an adjustment will be needed. Not always, but often enough that I consider it essential as long as it can be tolerated. Also, the neck is usually very easy to gently self adjust. Sometimes there can be neck pain relief even if there are some minor misalignments.

Heat
This can be very important. Massage can give the same benefit, but at times there is nothing like a hot bath or a heat pack to really soften the muscles.

What happens is that the muscles can be so tight that they pull a joint right back out of alignment, even with a strong adjustment like you might get at the chiropractor. Heat can easily soften a neck enough to allow an adjustment to take as well as giving relief from the pain.

Caution: If the pain is sharp, or there is an injury that involved some kind of impact, then ice should be used for 24 to 48 hours before applying heat.

Massage
Massage is a great way to relieve almost any muscle pain. There is a style for just about any need. Here’s a good one for most neck pain.

Emotions
Emotional components are like a bit of an emotion, or the energy of an emotion. They can get stuck in different parts of the body. When they do, they usually cause some physical issue. For example, they can cause a muscle to tighten which can pull a joint out of alignment.

These emotions can be removed from the body with techniques like Neuro-Emotional Technique, or The Emotion Code — a fairly new technique that I really like. Once the emotion is cleared from the area the adjustment can usually be done with success, and usually with less effort.

There are many other possible treatments for neck pain, but this will help the most common stiff neck. Just don’t take two days to do them all like I did.
